What Is There to Do in Palm Beach County in October?

October is when Palm Beach County gets comfortable again. The humidity breaks, the water is still warm, and the event calendar restarts after a quiet summer. The month's anchors in 2026 are Jupiter HarbourFest on October 16 and 17, the 52nd annual Oktoberfest in Lake Worth over two weekends, and LagoonFest on the West Palm Beach waterfront on October 31.

Ask anyone who has lived here more than a few years what their favorite month is, and a surprising number will say October.

Not January. Not March, when the county is at its busiest and every restaurant needs a reservation. October.

It is the month you can sit outside at dinner again without thinking about it. The month the boat gets used on a random Tuesday. The month that reminds you why you put up with August, which I wrote about in what locals love about August.

Here is how to spend it.

The Month the Weather Finally Turns

The change is not subtle. Somewhere in the first two weeks of October, you walk outside in the morning and the air is different.

Humidity drops. The daily afternoon thunderstorm that runs like clockwork all summer stops being daily. Evenings cool off enough that a patio table at seven o'clock is pleasant instead of something you endure.

Hurricane season runs through November 30, so anyone who lives here is still watching the tropics. But by the back half of the month, plans made outdoors tend to hold.

The water is the real payoff. Ocean temperatures are still warm from summer, and the sandbars and inlets are nowhere near as crowded as they will be in March. If you own a boat here, October and November are the two months you get it to yourself.

October 2026 Events Worth Putting on the Calendar

Passport to Pours opens the month on October 3 at Mizner Park Amphitheater in Boca Raton. Twelve country-inspired tasting stations, global bites, live music. It is a first-year event, which usually means shorter lines than it will have in 2027.

Oktoberfest at the American German Club of the Palm Beaches in Lake Worth runs across two weekends, October 9 through 11 and October 16 through 18. This is the 52nd year. German beer, real food, traditional dancing, and a crowd that takes it seriously. It is the most established October tradition in the county and it is worth the drive from anywhere.

Jupiter HarbourFest is the one I am most curious about. October 16 and 17, noon to 8:00 PM, at The Plaza Down Under on the Riverwalk at Harbourside Place. It is a brand-new waterfront festival built around music, food, and the Jupiter community. Given how well the Riverwalk works as a venue, I expect this one to stick.

Culinary Clash: Palm Beach Edition lands on October 26 at Culinary Studio in Lake Park. Top regional chefs compete across three rounds, each paired with a local charity, with fifty tasting guests voting on a People's Choice winner. Small room, big names.

LagoonFest closes the month on October 31, 8:30 AM to 2:00 PM on the West Palm Beach waterfront. Now in its 13th year, it celebrates the Lake Worth Lagoon, the twenty-mile estuary that runs through the middle of the county. Educational, outdoors, and free-feeling in the best way.

Between those, you have the start of the season for the food side of things. If you are building an October list, the county's waterfront dining spots are finally comfortable again, and our Flavor South Florida guide is a good place to start.

How Locals Actually Spend an October Weekend

The honest answer is that most October weekends here do not involve a festival at all.

They look more like this. Out early, because the mornings are worth getting up for. Coffee somewhere with outdoor seating. The beach before ten, when the parking is still easy and the sand has not filled in.

Then something on the water, or a long lunch, or a round of golf that does not require a 6:30 AM tee time to be survivable. In Jupiter, that rhythm has its own shape, and I broke it down in how locals spend a Saturday in Jupiter.

Sunset comes earlier now, which is a gift rather than a loss. You can be somewhere good for it and still have most of the evening in front of you, which is exactly the case for the county's waterfront tables in October.

If you are considering a move here and trying to pick a month to come look, October is one of the two I recommend. It shows you the county without season traffic and without peak summer heat, which means drive times, restaurant waits, and everyday logistics all look like what they will actually be. Come back in February and you will have seen both ends of the year.

It is one of the most useful months for a scouting trip.
